In 2023/2024 we recorded construction of the Field Newport battery energy storage system (BESS) in Newport, Wales for Clarke Energy.
This new 50MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) was constructed by Clarke Energy and Trina Storage, for Field, a renewable energy infrastructure company who own the site. Clarke Energy, a multinational sustainable energy solutions and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) provider, was responsible for all EPC work. Trina Storage, an integrated energy storage solutions provider and the storage-focused business unit of Trinasolar, acted as supplier and integrator.
We captured the construction using two of our long duration time-lapse cameras, which were on site from the start of the project through to completion. We also attended the site partway through and again at the end, to capture footage with our drone. As you can see in the final film below, this really helps to show the scale of the site and the battery storage facility that has been created.
Field Newport is now operational and offers dynamic frequency response to balance fluctuations in electricity demand, as well as enabling wholesale market arbitrage to reduce energy prices during off-peak periods.
